More on what sucks
I can't get over the insanity of moving kids indiscriminately out of foster homes. Today I heard an awesome quote by Ernie Crey co-author of Stolen from our Embrace which (rightly) decries the way children were removed from aboriginal families and adopted out or forced into residential schools. Still, he no longer believes that we should just pack up every foster child and send them back to their home reserves. These quotes are from a show off of CBC Radio, The Current, July 9, 2003:
“Love is where you find it.”
“Where bonds have been formed … and are especially strong, we need to be very circumspect about intervening and breaking those bonds in the service of some goal or objective our tribal child protection agencies might have. In other words, the agency is more concerned with advocating an agenda, a philosophy, than they are with examining each and every individual case.”
