CFS crap
Today I am feeling sad about kids I work with who will be taken away from a loving foster family they have been with for 5 years (except for the one who is younger than 5) and sent to live with strangers who are aboriginal and happen to be related to her. The foster family's opinion means nothing. My opinion means nothing. The children's opinion means nothing. People who don't know them get to take them away from the stability and love they have known for the sake of culture.
This sucks.
This sucks.

It sucks alright. My heart just sinks when I hear stories like this. Similar situation happening to a friend of mine, they threatened to take their two little kids away who have been with them for YEARS and are family to them, why? To put them in an already overloaded home (full of teenagers) where their older sister is who is terribly rebellious and acting out. Like this is going to be best for these two little ones? Sigh.
Once again broad stroke policy removes the responsibility of underpaid workers to think through a situation and make rational judgements regarding the best course of action. After all, we want educated people - we just don't want them to get to use their brains once they graduate. Just follow the policy. Big brother has decreed, and the soundbite plays well. Don't rock the boat with the reality that people are individuals. That would require complex solutions instead of the oversimplified ones people seem to love.
