lice
I've been searching the internet and I keep finding statements that Nix doesn't work.
To that, I say, "No kidding." That's not what I want to say, but I'll keep my language clean for the moment.
For the last 3 weeks we have treated with Nix, kept checking, checking, and then bang, we find them again about 1 week later.
Forget pesticides. We are trying the mayonnaise treatment followed by daily applications of tea tree oil mixed with olive oil and applied to her scalp.
If that doesn't work she's going bald.

We had a lice epidemic in spring. Had it over and over. NIX DOES NOT WORK!!! My theory (tho I'm no scientist) is that because it's the cheapest fix on the market, and most commonlyl used, the lice are becoming immune. We finally took a more pricey one, and it worked better.
The KEY is to buy the $20.00 metal lice comb. Don't bother with the plastic ones...they don't grab the nits. The metal one will save your BACON!!!
Another sure way to kill them, try buying extra strength Denorex shampoo. it stinks, but it works. Lather up the kids, and let them play in the tub for 20-30 minutes. You'll find lice floating in the tub. Then use the metal comb.
Once you've treated, try TeaTree oil to prevent further occurances. You can add it to their regular shampoo, buy the teatree shampoo, or just add some oil to a bottle of water, and mist their hair in the morning before they go to school.
The TeaTree oil is our life saver. The lice HATE it.
I hope this helps.
(ps....I also shampoo the girls with Denorex once a week or once every 2 weeks just as a prevenatvie measure for the girls)

lice sucks! my sisters have had it many times over. they are buggers to get out! the key is after you use any treatment to 'nit pick' thouroughly because it doesn't kill the eggs. then you retreat in a week so that any eggs you missed get killed before they can lay more!
We did do Nix again the week after we did it the first time. And then again last night - and today after the mayonnaise treatment, I found two more when I was combing for eggs, and one was still alive. Yvonne, you're right, the lice have developed resistence. We're going to shampoo with tea tree oil. I'm also going to mix tea tree with conditioner and just leave it in her hair. Tonight, just for extra protection, I also rubbed a mixture of tea tree oil and olive oil into her scalp to sit overnight.
It's hard to know if we're missing them when we're doing checks or if she's getting reinfested by someone(s) at school.
I think Loraleigh has one of those magical combs you might be able to borrow it.
have you checked safety of full strength teatree oil directly on skin? i will look into it - just heard some stuff last year flying around the parent room about safety concerns.
i looked at some stuff and couldn't find much that confirmed concern. it's just that it hasn't been tested scientifically on children, pregnant or breastfeeding mothers.
it seems to be used on everything but the kitchen sink tho'.
Deleted 2 comments of someone trying to sell me a lice product.
2 reasons:
1. I would never buy a product that someone comes on my blog to try to sell.
2. I would never buy a product from someone who doesn't type complete sentences.
