When a problem's not a problem

As part of an FASD prevention PP I'm working on I've been looking up a lot of things on unplanned pregnancy. This can be quite depressing as it inevitably leads to many, many sites that are pro-abortion. What I really noticed, though, is that the solution is always the same, revolving around contraception: more access, more education, more consistent usage.

They seem oblivious to the fact that an unplanned pregnancy does not HAVE to be a problem. 2 out of my 3 pregnancies were unplanned. While the timing wasn't ideal, when is the timing for a child ever ideal? If people are ready to welcome a child into the world even if not planned, an unplanned pregnancy is not a problem.

Alternatives could be to engage in education that emphasizes the reality: Most women will probably have an unplanned pregnancy. The nature of sexuality practically guarantees it. Approximately half of all pregnancies are unplanned. While you can't necessarily control all things in your life, you can ensure that when you do become pregnant, unplanned or not, it is not a problem because you can be ready for it. You can do this by only having sex when you're ready for the consequences, whatever they might be.

Here's another idea - anything that encourages sex outside of marriage, be it movies, tv shows, magazines or books, should have a 100% tax on it with the proceeds going directly to support children who are born into single-parent families. Corporations should pay for their negative influences. I know, it'll never happen. What a silly idea after all, getting anyone to take responsibility for their actions and their influence. Better we all just keep our heads in the sand and deny and shift the blame.
