The spa...

It was nice to get a pedicure, although the chairs were not as comfy as I would have liked. And next time I'm bringing my own book rather than be subject to the vast world of fashion and high society magazines again. Elle, for ex. is totally obsessed with movies with extreme sexual content. No normal woman could look good in any of those clothes. And Town and Country was basically a jewellry catalogue - but don't feel guilty about indulging yourself in a consumer-driven lifestyle, because the companies all support Unicef! One Letter to the Editor talked about how glad they were for the ---- issue where the importance of philanthropy was discussed, and how hard it must have been for ---- to go to Sri Lanka to help the people there. My guess is the people being helped find it even a whole lot harder. How shallow can people get?

And my beautician - or whatever term is currently coined - has her Masters degree in chemical engineering. The same old story - immigrant comes to Canada because Canada gives preference to professionals. Meanwhile they cannot actually practice their profession here without taking their entire schooling over again. We have scads of doctors, engineers and other highly trained individuals working as janitors, cab drivers and beauticians. The one profession given preference than can get into Canada easily: exotic dancers. Apparently their credentials transfer quite nicely.

Spa visit turned social policy rant.
