desperate middle of the night inspiration

So I laidConor down after the second time he came to our bed in the middle of the night. Philisophically, I have no problems with kids in bed with us but I do not sleep well if they do. I can usually let him fall asleep and sneak him back to his own bed, but as soon as I did that - WAAAAH!

I had to go to the washroom so I listened as he tore around the house screeching, pushing the table around, banging on the bathroom door.

Even Ferber was starting to sound like a good idea at 4:00 am.

But I gritted my teeth and said, "It's about attachment, it's about attachment."

He needs to be near me. Proximity is the tool of attachment at this age. So I thought, he has fallen asleep by the side of my bed. Problem: he scoots under the bed in his sleep which I'm really uncomfortable with. Then I realized the solution is so simple: I simply shove a blanket in between the mattress and the boxspring and lay the remainder on the floor for him to sleep on. Add a pillow: Voila! Conor followed me in, collapsed on his makeshift bed and feel asleep until almost 8:00 am.
