My favourite prefix this week is post-. As in post-modern, post-charismatic, post-evangelical. As I continue questioning and reading (a lot of McLaren lately) and finding myself resonating with the theme that I am moving past some of the things I've thought and believed, but wondering what does that mean? I try not to get obsessed with labels , but am I now not evangelical, not charismatic (actually, that one wouldn't bother me as much), not modern?

But post- is a good way of clarifying the journey. It clarifies not a rejection of the all that a certain term encompassed, but moving past and carrying on while still retaining all that one finds valuable. Similar to the rings of a tree - a tree is not hollow inside, it retains all it once was, but has added on to those earlier stages and has kept growing.

Post doesn't mean not, it means after.
So your tree analogy is a good one.
Its not that you are not modern or not evangelical.
You came after the movement and so you have taken from the movement the good, the bad and the ugly with some hindsight.

As in, you are not lost in the movement as it is happening, you are looking at it from from a perspective of after the movement.
Hindsight is 20-20 so you are capable of looking at it with more information rather than being caught up in the wave of the movement.

Like the tree - let the lessons be a apart of who you are becoming.
Good analogy!

I agree. The things you have done all effect you. So it is not "not" it is post... the after... looking at what was and how it effects the now.

PS I have changed my blog. The new address is www.livinglaughinglovingit.blogspot.com so you can update your link if you would like.
