i love lego
When I was a little girl, on one of our trips to Saskatoon, my dad purchased a big lego set. I still remember the box. It had an airport with a tower, a jet, a smaller plane and a yellow hangar. Dad said later that he didi that because he wanted to play with his daughters. We were always asking to play and he didn't want to play dolls, but he knew he'd have fun, too, with Lego.
So I have a soft spot for Lego, but I don't like where the company is going. We had one big set (plus a little cabin set) and that was enough. It had doors, windows, wheels, trees, lots of bricks, including roof blocks and the plates.
You can't find a set like that anymore. There are lots of sets with specific parts that will make one, and only one, toy. The big boxes sometimes have only the tiny bricks, and lack some of the cool pieces that allowed a lot of interesting creations. Wheels, doors and windows are only available in separate, more expensive packages or as add-ons through catalogue or web site (also expensive when considering what one gets).
Rob, after looking through the catalogue, estimated that a half decent set-up will be $200, at least.
I'm thinking a bit less. I lucked out at Toys R Stinkin' Expensive, as I bought a box pluss 500 pieces for what I'm sure was the wrong price according to the flyer (and , yes, being a good Christian I pointed that out but the clerk made no changes). Acouple of add on packs and I think we're good.
But it would be nice if Lego stopped bilking their customers.
